A 63-YEAR-OLD man was jailed on Christmas Eve after admitting he indecently assaulted a 10-year-old girl living in the same flat. Li Kai was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment after pleading guilty to two counts of indecent assault in August. District Court Judge Barbara Chan was told Li, the victim and her parents were co-tenants and lived in a flat in Cheung Lok Street in Yau Ma Tei. On August 16, the girl was left at home while her parents were working, and she and Li were sitting on a bed watching television. Li then put his hand under the girl's clothes and fondled her. He told the girl not to tell anyone about it. The following day, when they were again watching television, the court heard that Li locked the door, switched off the light and indecently assaulted the girl. They were discovered a short time later by the girl's father. Li was found wearing only his underpants while the girl was in her underclothes. The father reported the matter to police and sent his daughter to a doctor to be examined. Under caution Li admitted he had done wrong. Defence lawyer Thomas Evans said Li was married with four children. He lived alone in Yau Ma Tei to be close to his place of work. Li had since moved out of the flat and was living with his wife.
