A charming personality keen to meet interesting people during some very sociable hours might enjoy being the general manager of a nightclub. Volar is an upscale bar located in Central that pulled its first pint earlier this year. Due to expansion, someone is required to oversee the operations of not only Volar but also a new venue that will open later this year. Above all, it is the general manager's duty to ensure that guests are happy. 'Every night is like the weekend. This job could be other people's definition of a fun night out. But at the same time, every night could also be a challenge, because, as the general manager, [the person] would also be expected to help bring in new ideas to maintain good business and help the club to stay on the top of the game,' said Ina Shum, the group's director. Staying on top means being able to handle customers' inquiries, managing 35 staff and administering sales and stock on a daily basis - all with a smile. The incumbent will also be required to communicate closely with both the public relations and marketing teams. Interested candidates will need a degree in hotel management or a related subject and six to eight years of management experience in the food and beverage industry. Previous experience as an operations manager, bar manager or club manager would be an advantage. Describing the ideal personality, Ms Shum said: 'Someone who knows when to have a good time while upholding self-discipline.'
