VALET parking services offered by triad gangs have become more low-key in Wan Chai since the murder of Sun Yee On office bearer Andely Chan Yiu-hing, according to police.
Officers say there are fewer so-called car jockeys on the street, and those who are operating are causing less obstruction.
Valet parking is not illegal, but triads who run most of the services in Wan Chai often leave the cars in no-parking zones, leaving their clients to pick up any fines.
Police say the gangs also often race the cars without the owner's knowledge.
Detective Superintendent Jimmy Leung Hung-wai of Wan Chai police said: ''There used to be about 50 triad car jockeys working in Wan Chai, but the number has fallen since Chan's death. They are also not parking illegally as much.'' Chan, leader of the Sun Yee On in Wan Chai, and an associate were shot dead outside a hotel in Macau in November.
