She may be Dame Vivienne Westwood now but the punk spirit still lives in the queen of British fashion. In town last Thursday to present a touring retrospective fashion show spanning 35 years, her awesome threads covering her punk, new wave, pirate and more eras left jaws agape even among jaded sartorial critics at the Grand Hyatt ballroom. Rarely are there standing ovations at fashion shows, but Westwood was deservedly given one. To prove this dame hasn't sold her soul to Mammon, she made her political points heard too. She wore on stage the 'I Am Not A Terrorist' T-shirt, which she designed for the UK civil rights organisation Liberty. The goodie bag handed out to guests not only contained some funky buttons and advertising flyers, but also a petition seeking support for Native American prisoner Leonard Peltier, who many people believe has been falsely imprisoned for 29 years. That's how cool Westwood is!
