Language points

1. Bargain (pronounce: bahr-guhn)

Something you buy or acquire at less than the usual cost.

Eg. I got a great bargain at the supermarket. They discounted my favourite cakes down by 50 per cent, saving me heaps of cash.

2. Rip-off (slang)

An act or instance of 'ripping-off' someone else; a theft, cheat or swindle. In this case, the slang term means that the item is over-priced.

Eg. That designer shirt costs $3,000. What a rip-off!

3. Spendthrift (noun)

A person who spends money either extravagantly, wastefully, or recklessly.

Eg. I was such a spendthrift last week buying lots of clothes and I ran out of money. I shouldn't have bought that third pair of jeans, I didn't need them.
