A father who punished his son, nine, for not finishing his homework by marching him naked in the street was ordered to be bound over for two years yesterday.
Chan Kwok-yim, 46, unemployed, was found guilty in Fanling Court earlier this month of one charge of ill-treating a child.
He dragged the boy from a shower and marched him around the streets near his home in Tin Shui Wai on October 23 last year.
Magistrate Symon Wong Yu-wing said reports showed Chan was ill-tempered and violent and that his teaching method was counterproductive.
Mr Wong said the father did not require psychological counselling but urged him to seek outside advice on how to teach the boy.
The court heard Chan walked the naked boy to a nearby sports ground and a light rail station last year as punishment for laziness. The boy's mother called the police. The boy told the court he had suffered similar treatment while in kindergarten.
