If the butterflies were flapping around in Anna Lau's stomach yesterday she certainly wasn't letting them show.

As the winner of the South China Morning Post's 'Win a lesson with Retief Goosen' competition, the 42-year-old got to spend an hour with the dual US Open winner for a little one-on-one tuition.

That meant first teeing up alongside the professionals as they fine-tuned their games at the Hong Kong Golf Club's driving range. And though she might be an 18 handicapper, Lau hit her straps from her very first shot - hitting straight and impressively long and showing a steely-eyed poise.

But while on the outside she might have appeared ice cool, Lau admits it was the opposite on the inside.

'I was very, very nervous,'' said Lau, who was watched by her brother and a group of friends. 'I was looking at the professionals and hoping I didn't embarrass myself. But he was so kind and so nice. He taught me a few things, especially in the bunkers, which is the worst part of my game. I really don't know what I am doing when I hit into the bunkers.'

For a man who was waiting to see whether his second round one-over 71 was good enough to make the cut, Goosen showed impressive patience with Lau, especially when they took to the sand traps.
