It is one of the fastest-moving design fields and it's changing the way we live.
Music, pictures, speech, video, text and animations can be combined in multi-media digital arts, creating one of the most exciting fields for designers. Master's degree programmes that involve training in multi-media design skills are offered by several universities in Hong Kong.
City University's two-year full-time MFA in creative arts offers students theory and extensive studio-based practice and has multi-media design as one of its core specialisms. Programmes include computer graphics, animation, digital audio-visual media and culture, and film and video making. Graduates of any discipline can join provided they demonstrate creative ability and interest.
Programme leader Ip Yuk-yiu (below) said the cultural and artistic diversity of the programme - due to the international staff and student body and wide range of offerings - was a key strength.
'Most of our students go into film, video, animation and multi-media design,' he said. 'Typically, they don't just specialise in one field, they would combine two or more. This is an up-and-coming industry and it is still very fluid.'
Baptist University offers a full-time MFA in film, TV and digital media over three years that involves three tracks: digital media applications, film and TV production and script-writing. Students specialise from the second year.
