No, because getting top marks in exams should not be the sole objective of students.

Some of my classmates benefited from attending tutorial centres because they have good teachers. But what about discipline and team spirit?

In school, we respect our teachers and other students and learn how to get along with them. We develop self-discipline  by obeying the school rules. Tutorial schools are only aimed at helping students do better in exams.

Because of the exam-oriented learning atmosphere, there is little interaction among students.

Friends play a very important part in our lives. But cultivating a good friendship takes time and a tutorial school is not the right place to do it.

Having good friends can help us in our studies and teach us valuable lessons about life. With our friends' guidance, we can grow up to be more responsible citizens.

Friendships developed in school can last for a long time. Often, alumni help each other when they are facing difficulties in their private and social lives.

It's not worth wasting our precious time in tutorial schools. We should not put too much emphasis on exams and neglect our interests - and friends.

Teenagers should take part in a wide range of activities to stimulate us mentally and physically. Spending long hours in a tutorial centre is not best way to do this.

Yes. In an exam-oriented education system like Hong Kong, tutorial schools play a crucial role. They help students equip themselves with essential skills to cope with public exams.

We all know that regular schools provide a whole-person education which tutorial centres cannot do. But we have a cruel system which weeds out incapable students. A student's future is determined by good academic results.

In tutorial schools, teachers don't waste their time. They concentrate on things  related to public examinations, such as intensive exercises and past papers.

The learning efficiency is much higher in tutorial schools because they don't spend any time on non-exam subjects.

There's no doubt that students must have a happy school life and learn about the correct values.  But their ultimate objective is to enter university.  And this is all about exams. Tutorial centres  provide everything we need to deal with the pressure.

Many tutorial schools have launched costly advertising campaigns because they are confident about the valuable service they are offering.

And students are happy to join tutorial centres, paying hundreds of dollars every month.

If schools were doing a good job, tutorial centres wouldn't be able to survive.
