This is an exciting time for the hospitality industry in Asia, particularly on the mainland, where growing personal wealth has made travelling easier and has set the stage for a rapidly growing tourism sector. Hilton Hotels is poised to expand in China across all market segments, with the chain now in the process of establishing a technical services team that will be pivotal in ensuring the production of well-built hotels, representing the Hilton and Conrad hotel brands, as well as introducing new brands from the United States, such as Doubletree by Hilton. To help spearhead developments, a leader with strong planning and design skills and an understanding of hotel architecture and interior design is sought for the position of director of technical services. The successful candidate must be prepared to travel extensively in China. 'The initial technical services team in China will be quite small but will grow as our presence grows and will be fully supported by the area office technical services team,' said Valerie Hayden, vice-president of human resources for the Hilton Hotels Middle East and Asia-Pacific, adding that she viewed this role as a project manager for Hilton's projects in China. Day to day, the director will help co-ordinate the project team, communicate with all parties concerned, give technical advice and review the completed work. The successful candidate may hail from a variety of backgrounds and could be a qualified architect, a quantity surveyor or an engineer, preferably with experience in site development or project management. A resilient problem-solver will make a favourable impression during the interview process.
