Garfunkel was not the only art at the Convention and Exhibition Centre at the weekend. Auction house Christie's hosted a viewing of precious items to be sold next year in London. The display was launched with a reception at the Grand Hall on Friday and runs until Wednesday. It includes jewellery and watches, and a lot of art, both classic and modern, from Asia and the west. Certainly, if you're into high culture, it's a good chance to see a few Picasso, Chagall and Leger paintings for free before some billionaire snaps them up for a private collection. Meanwhile, Hall 1 at the centre also competed for the attention of consumers. German carmaker Mercedes-Benz rolled out its new CL-class models at a fancy cocktail launch. What to do with those recent stock profits? The car is a nice toy, but the art is probably a better investment.
