Film sets of popular movies will be brought to life again at the Hong Kong Film Archive in Sai Wan Ho.
The exhibition, Moving Spaces: Production Design and Film, is a collaboration between the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Goethe-Institute Hongkong, with some of the exhibits on loan from Germany.
It will feature filmic spaces and film production designs through models, screenings and seminars.
Artifacts showcased include drawings, sketches and film set models imported worldwide and some created locally based on classic scenes in Hong Kong movies.
Ten films will be screened during the exhibition, which runs from December 9 to January 27. They are divided into five categories: stage, power, transition, inner life and labyrinth.
The Phantom Lover (1995) and Kung Fu Hustle (2004) show the 'stage concept'. Starring the late Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing, The Phantom Lover features a Gothic style, gigantic opera house built by the late art director Eddie Ma.
In Kung Fu Hustle (pictured), the 'Pig Sty Alley' that housed the many eccentric households in the film brought together images and icons from martial arts cinema old and new.
