How did she start it?

Born in London in 1976, Beatrix Ong spent her childhood in Hong Kong, then returned to England in 1992 to study. Three years later, she completed a foundation course at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design and then enrolled at the London College of Printing. As part of her studies there, she spent a year at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York on a media and design course. She returned to London, finished her degree and gained admission to Cordwainers College.

On graduation, she worked at Jimmy Choo Couture before a successful stint at Lulu Guinness, where she was the sole designer for the brand's first shoe collection for autumn/winter 2002-03.

In 2002, she launched her own collection of women's shoes at London Fashion Week.

The next year, Ong's shoes were on the catwalks at Maria Chen and Temperley London shows in London and New York, respectively. Also in 2003, The Independent hailed Ong as one of the industry's 10 leading shoe designers. In 2004, she opened her main store, in London's Primrose Hill, and last year worked with Pringle of Scotland to create shoes for its first show at Milan Fashion Week.
