MTR chief's contract extended for three years
The MTR Corp's chief executive, Chow Chung-kong, has had his contract extended for three years to November 2009. A spokeswoman dismissed speculation that the three-year term, two years longer than the contract for Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation chief executive James Blake, was aimed at securing Mr Chow's position as CEO of a merged operation. 'Three years has been a normal period of employment for our senior executives and the contract is subject to termination by both parties,' she said.
Alan Leong pushes ahead with clean-air plans
Chief Executive hopeful Alan Leong Kah-kit yesterday sent his clean-air platform to the State Council's Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office. A copy was also delivered to the central government's liaison office in Western district. Meanwhile, former chief secretary Anson Chan Fang On-sang said she supported competition in the chief executive race, when asked if she backed Mr Leong's bid to challenge Donald Tsang Yam-kuen. But she reiterated that she would not be canvassing for any of the candidates.
Tsang's popularity dips slightly, survey shows
The popularity of Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen and satisfaction with the SAR government dropped in the latest University of Hong Kong poll. Mr Tsang scored 61.6 out of possible 100 marks in the poll conducted between last Monday and Friday, representing a drop of 0.7 points over the 62.3 marks recorded earlier this month. The study also found that 62 per cent of the 1,012 respondents supported Mr Tsang as chief executive - down three percentage points from the 65 per cent recorded in the previous poll.
