Mrs Chan paid a special visit to Beijing to express her gratitude for the central government's nomination and support throughout her election campaign.

During a 20-minute meeting with Premier Wen Jiabao at the Great Hall of the People yesterday, Mrs Chan said: 'Thank you for your trust and help during the election process. This victory is the glory of our country. For me personally, it is the pinnacle of my career.'
