GE Lighting yesterday signed an agreement with Shanghai Jiabao Industry and Commerce Co to establish a joint venture to manufacture, distribute and sell a range of light products in China. The venture, which is subject to the approval of the Shanghai Government, will be 65 per cent owned by GE Lighting and 35 per cent owned by Shanghai Jiabao. The joint venture will combine Shanghai Jiabao's existing manufacturing plants with capital, technology and manufacturing equipment provided by GE Lighting. GE Lighting produces thousands of lamp types for worldwide consumer, commercial and industrial markets. GE Lighting joins other major GE businesses with significant activities and orders in China, including aircraft engines, power generation, engineering plastics and medical diagnostic imaging.
