Robbie Fradd has decided to hand back his mid-term licence in Hong Kong and will move to Singapore as a freelance rider after completing his engagements at the international meeting tomorrow week.
Fradd, who turns 42 on December 12, has won races in the Lion City during each of the past two summers and found the racing set-up at the modern Kranji racecourse very appealing.
This week, the Singapore Turf Club advised Fradd that his application for a freelance licence had been accepted. Fradd confirmed the move yesterday after advising Kim Kelly, secretary of the Jockey Club licensing committee.
'I've been thinking about a move for some time,' Fradd said. 'I won the Singapore Derby for [trainer] Pat Shaw this year and I really enjoy the place. It's a completely different set-up to Hong Kong and it will be good for me.
'It's as much a lifestyle change as anything else. I'll be riding freelance there, but I expect I'll be getting some strong support from Pat. We've been friends for a long time and he's always been a great supporter.
'But I must say Hong Kong racing has been very good to me and I have some wonderful memories here.'
