Updated at 6.15pm: Packets of dangerous drugs were found in a newly-admitted remand prisoner at the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre, the Correctional Services Department (CSD) said on Monday. A spokesman said the 31-year-old prisoner, surnamed Mak, last Friday expelled seven packets of suspected heroin. Mak had been admitted to the prison last Tuesday on a drug trafficking charge. The centre is a maximum security jail for male inmates, including those awaiting court proceedings. ?Acting on information that Mak might have swallowed some dangerous drugs before his admission, CSD officers put him in an isolation cell for close observation,? the spokesman said. The case has been reported to police, the spokesman added. Between January and October, the department made 99 seizures of dangerous drugs, most of them in prisons. The spokesman stressed that prison officers would take every measure to prevent the smuggling in of dangerous drugs. ?The department is committed to maintaining a drug-free environment for everyone in its custody?, he said.
