It could only be a matter of time

Last month,  I watched a TV programme about a man who brought some animals back from the past.

Some people may think that the story is too unrealistic, but I don't think so.

If we forget about the impossible, then we won't have any new ideas or inventions to improve our life.

We invented the light bulb, television, telephone and computer, so nobody should say that we can only dream about having a time machine.

We should work hard, but having a good imagination is more important for success.

If we think and develop a good plan, it will save a lot of time.

So, don't think that everything is impossible. Be imaginative.

Useful thoughts

I talked with my friend about 'how to be a thoughtful boy' recently.

The discussion shed light on how we should live our lives.

We should be considerate towards all around us, including our family, classmates and friends, and care about their feelings.

We need to think if our actions make others unhappy. What we say is also very important. Our words can easily hurt people so we should mind our language.

We should also help others if they are in trouble.

My goal is to be a thoughtful boy. This can make others happy.

Love can be a beautiful thing

It seems natural that we all want to be beautiful.

The main characters in films and story books are very attractive and usually have a wonderful future. On the other hand, ugly people do badly and end up being miserable.

So people often believe - wrongly - that being beautiful is the only way to make others love you. I also want to be pretty, but I don't think beauty is equal to being happy or being loved.

Nothing is more beautiful than the love in our hearts for others.

Wherever there is love, there is beauty.

Love is an emotion that can affect your whole life.  Can people really find their true love?

Many people change their partners frequently because they are looking for someone who can take care of them and protect them.

Everyone wants to be loved, but does that mean you can find love so easily?

I don't think so.

The great philosopher,  Plato, said every star represents a person and has two sides - a bright one and a dark one.

The two sides fall to the Earth and become man and woman. Finding the one who belongs to you is difficult.

One day, maybe we will find him or her, or we may spend our entire life searching for our ideal partner.

To love someone is easy but to sacrifice yourself for that person is difficult.

If you  find the other half which really belongs to you, be serious and treasure that person. Otherwise, you will regret it for the rest of your life.

Change for the better

Many people don't like to accept advice. They may say:  'I know it already', 'don't think I am foolish' or 'I don't need your opinion'.

This is a bad attitude and it hurts people.

When we are dealing with others, we should always be kind and considerate.

Otherwise, we won't be able to mix with others and it will be difficult to survive in this modern society.

From now on, think about your attitude and the language you use in daily life.

If you find that people don't like you, you should reflect on the reasons for their hatred.

Maybe you need to reform your character.

If we change our ways for the better, we will have more friends and become happier.

Don't suffer alone; talk to someone

Do you ever feel sad or frustrated?

Almost all Hongkongers are under pressure these days.

It is difficult to cheer up when you have problems, but there is a way to help yourself - talk to someone.

They may not provide a solution, but at least they'll listen to you.

I am sure  you will feel better after the chat.

Actually, life is not that bad.  If you think in a positive way and let others know about your feelings, you will be happier.

So from today, don't pull a long face in front of others.

You should smile and communicate with your friends.

Remember, don't  suffer alone!

Let's try to learn from experience

I am writing in response to the letter 'Believe in yourself' (Young Post, November 7).

Lack of confidence is a serious problem among many teenagers.

The writer says teenagers worry too much about what others think of them. She is right.

This is evident in the classroom.

When a teacher asks students for their opinion, nobody will raise their hands.

I myself was scared that my classmates would laugh at me.

We should try our best to overcome problems. There are many opportunities in life.

The best way for us to know more about our world is to learn through experience. Although we may not be successful in the end, we can learn from the process.

Friends make your day in school

Friendship is the best aspect of school life.

You can share your feelings with your friends, or take part in many activities with them.

You can also play sports such as basketball or join competitions.

Friends can encourage you to do better in school.

If you only concentrate on your studies, you will be miserable because school life will then become boring.

You should learn how to balance your studies and extra-curricular activities. I hope I can have a blissful school life.

Don't take parents' love for granted

A lot of Hong Kong families have only one child who is treated like a 'little emperor'.

The parents buy their children anything they want, so they become too demanding.

They are also rude to their parents because they know they won't be punished.

They expect their parents to do everything. For example, they  want their parents to buy computer games  no matter the price.

Children should not take their parents' love for granted.

When you demand that your parents do something, please consider their feelings and what you can give them back in return.
