A play based on a classic novel by famous Chinese writer, Lao She, will be staged at Kwai Tsing Theatre next month. Teahouse will be performed by renowned theatre group, Beijing People's Art Theatre. The story revolves around a large teahouse in Beijing over a 50-year period. Focusing on the fate of its owner, Wang Lifa, and its patrons who come from all walks of life, the drama takes the audience on a journey through some of the most chaotic times in modern Chinese history. The play, which premiered in 1958, was the first Chinese drama production performed outside China. It has toured the United States, Germany and France.
