Spiritual scam leaves woman HK$600,000 poorer
A 56-year-old woman was cheated out of HK$600,000 by fraudsters who offered to give her a spiritual blessing. She told police two women approached her outside a market in Yeung Uk Road, Tsuen Wan, at 8am when she finished her shift as a security guard and was on the way home. One claimed she had super powers and could double the victim's money. The victim withdrew HK$600,000 from two banks and went to a park near Tai Wo Hau MTR station for the ritual. She was told not to open her eyes during the ritual and not to open the bag containing the money until she got home. She discovered the money missing after she got back to her flat in Kwai Chung Estate and opened the bag.
