Plum Blossoms Gallery
Ends December 23
While some people clear out old junk by tossing it in the bin, others may offload their possessions in an art gallery. One art collector, who chooses to remain anonymous, did just that.
Matter and Memory (Part I: Director's Choice) is an eclectic selection of collector's tastes, from Asian and western bronzes to mixed media, photographs, inks, acrylics and Japanese pop art, amassed in the past 30 years.
The exhibition showcases mainly one work from each of the 16 artists: Andy Warhol, Tracey Emin, Diego Giacometti, Robert Mapplethorpe, Helmut Newton, Ellsworth Kelly, Daniel Richter, Mahomi Kunikata, Ju Ming, Ding Yi, Chen Yifei, Wu Guanzhong, Zhang Dali, Lois Connor, Jiang Shuo and Wu Shaoxiang.
Departing from its usual exhibitions of contemporary Chinese and Asian art, the Plum Blossoms Gallery decided to include western art. 'We have some provocative pieces and a bit more off-the-wall,' says its marketing executive Nadim Abbas. 'People are warming to the idea of art and since Chinese art is so popular these days, we thought about freshening things up.'
