Barren platforms, empty pens and fertile imaginations: the poll nears

We're not sure whether he was inspired by G.K. Chesterton ('A room without books is like a body without a soul') or Gloria Steinem ('A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle'), but independent Ricky Wong Wai-kay has come up with a catchy slogan in his campaign for an Election Committee seat in the information technology sector.

The City Telecom chief has sent electors a box containing an empty ballpoint pen with the inscription, 'A pen without a refill is just like a chief executive's election platform without a heart'.

Mr Wong has said that while Donald Tsang Yam-kuen is his ultimate preference, he would be prepared to nominate another 'quality' candidate to press Mr Tsang for more commitments.

Richard Li gets real

Richard Li Tzar-kai's pledge to fight for real democracy if elected to sit on the Election Committee has fascinated some democrats. 'If he nominated Alan [Leong Kah-kit], it would be so sexy. I don't really mind his motives as long as we can get his vote,' one said.
