China's A1 Grand Prix team have undergone a changing of the guard with Dutch-born speedster Tung Ho-pin taking over from Cheng Congfu for the fifth round of the series in Indonesia this weekend. Coming off a victorious season in the German Formula Three Championship, Tung took over behind the wheel in practice sessions on Friday before team officials confirmed his debut in the World Cup of Motorsport in today's main races. The 24-year-old Tung, who came 14th in qualifying yesterday, has shown his interest in joining team China over the past two years. 'Tung has been applying for the job for a long time and we decided to give him a chance to prove his competence,' said Guan Yunke, director of A1 team China. The official, however, made no comment on whether Tung would be retained for the rest of the season, citing A1 regulations allowing random rotation of drivers. The A1 series pits two-driver teams racing under national flags. Cheng may be out of the picture for a while, his father said. 'He has already left for Britain,' Cheng Yingguo said in Beijing. 'I am not sure when he will be back.' Cheng, 22, has won eight points for China in the opening four races so far, despite a crash early in the Beijing leg last month.
