What is it? A combined Global Positioning System (GPS) device, travel toolkit and entertainment centre for vehicles. The GO 910 is the first GPS gadget to come with pre-installed maps of Europe, the US and Canada (Australia is also available). It was recently named 'Best Buy' by influential British consumer magazine Which? Why do I need one? The GO 910 can make daily travelling easy, with real-time traffic and road-condition information, weather reports and alternative-route suggestions. You may also simplify long-distance travel by pre-programming your itinerary on a PC or Mac, which will send, to your GO 910, detailed international maps. The glare-free LCD screen carries clear, three-dimensional icons and adjusts to lighting conditions, and a remote-control unit keeps back-seat drivers happy. Anything else? Digital photographs can be loaded and viewed as a slide show and Tom has a built-in MP3 player. Audio books, magazines and newspapers can be downloaded to the device's 20-gigabyte hard drive. How does it work? Stick it to the dashboard or windscreen to pick up signals from the SiRF Star III satellite-based GPS automatically. Free software gives access to travel-related content and services, and Bluetooth wireless technology enables phone calls. Where can I find one? The TomTom GO 910 is available at www.tomtom.com for #499 (HK$7,500). Delivery to Hong Kong can be arranged.
