Hong Kong's windsurfers enjoyed their best day at an Asian Games yesterday, capturing medals in all three events including Chan King-yin's gold in the men's light mistral.

The seven-day regatta wrapped up yesterday at the Trapezoid Outer course on a chilly afternoon, with a total of nine races completed after three were called off on Sunday because of lack of wind.

In the women's mistral, Chan Wai-kei, who needed to win the first of her two races yesterday to challenge overall leader Chen Lina of China, could manage only second behind the mainlander, and had to settle for a silver medal.

'Winning a silver medal is still a big achievement as this is my first Asian Games,' said the 25 years old, who had the consolation of winning the second race.

'I felt very happy and am exciting about bringing home a silver medal,' Chan said. 'I came here with the aim of getting international experience and I am sure I can improve the result in future Asian Games.'

Chan has been tipped to spearhead the new generation of Hong Kong's women windsurfers after former Olympic champion Lee Lai-shan opted out of the Doha Games.

Chan was tied with Chen, from Guangdong, on penalty points as both had 12, but lost the gold medal on a countback of victories.
