Rebecca Chiu Wing-yin began her title defence in style with a crushing 3-0 win over China's Wu Zhenzhen in the first round of the women's singles in the squash competition yesterday.
Chiu, the second seed in the 16-strong draw, outclassed her rival 9-2, 9-6, 9-1 in 14 minutes.
'I was expecting a tougher match, although I beat her the last time we played. It's going to be harder from now on,' said Chiu.
Hong Kong had mixed results in the men's event. While Wong Wai-hang easily disposed of Macau's Sun Kin-peng 9-1, 9-3, 9-2, Roger Ngan Lun-cheung lost 2-9, 9-1, 2-9, 9-2, 9-1 to Kuwait's Ali Bader Al Ramezi in a thrilling encounter.
In wushu, Hong Kong made a disappointing start to the men's changquan. After the first of the three events, the long fist, Pusan silver medallist To Yu-hang was lying 10th, and teammate Cheng Chung-hang ninth.
