Former chief executive officer of Dragonair Stanley Hui Hon-chung has been named the new chief executive of the Airport Authority. The appointment, unanimously endorsed by the authority's board and approved by Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, takes effect from February 1. Mr Hui succeeds David Pang Ding-jung, who has retired from the position he held since January 2001. Victor Fung Kwok-king, chairman of the authority, said Chek Lap Kok airport had regularly been recognised under Dr Pang's leadership as the world's best in passenger surveys and by industry associations and trade publications. He said passenger and cargo throughput grew significantly and financial performance continued to improve under Dr Pang's leadership. Mr Hui, a director of the China National Aviation Corporation (Group), will implement the airport's strategic plan, aimed at maintaining its competitiveness and contribution to economic development.
