AUSTRIANS SHOWCASE PUPPET MAGIC

An award-winning puppet theatre group from Austria will present two shows in Hong Kong.

Marionettentheater Schloss Schonbrunn will stage Little Night Music, a popular work by Mozart.  Johann Strauss and the Danube Maid is about the life of Austrian composer Johann Strauss, featuring music, dance, fast-moving action and colourful costumes.

The shows will be staged today at Yuen Long Theatre, and on Saturday and Sunday at Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets cost HK$45 to HK$85 for students, and HK$90 to HK$170 for adults. Reservations from Urbtix on 2734 9009.

FESTIVE FAVOURITE FOR BALLET LOVERS

Hong Kong Ballet will present the festive favourite, Nutcracker, from today until December 26 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Nutcracker tells the story of Clara, a young girl who receives a nutcracker in the shape of a prince as a Christmas gift. She later dreams that the nutcracker turns into a living prince who saves her from the mouse army and whisks her away to the Land of Snow.

Tickets, at HK$50 to HK$150 for students and HK$100 to HK$300 for adults, are available from Urbtix.

YOUNG MUSICIANS BATTLE FOR TOP AWARD

The grand final  of Hong Kong Young Musician of the Year 2006 will  be held on Sunday at  Hong Kong Baptist University.

The competition attracted  more than 1,600 participants.  The winners of the four categories - piano, strings, winds and percussion -  will compete for the top award on Sunday.

Tickets cost HK$20 for students, and HK$40 for adults. Bookings from Urbtix. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Unicef.
