A secondary school student was yesterday jailed for 29 years for murdering his schoolmate outside a changing room in Quarry Bay Park last year.

Albert Lam Hon-man, 18, who had pleaded not guilty to murdering Choi Wai-lok, was convicted by a jury on December 9.

'He needs to take responsibility for his action,' said Madam Justice Clare-Marie Beeson in the Court of First Instance yesterday, noting a background report on Lam that stated he had a strong tendency to blame others.

Both Lam and Choi, 16, had been students at Tang Shiu Kin Victoria Government Secondary School in Wan Chai when the murder took place in Quarry Bay Park on December 7 last year.

The court heard that nearly 20 cut wounds were found on Choi's body when he was discovered by park security guards at 2am.

Lam had admitted he and Choi shared beers and chatted in the park on the night of December 6 until he left Choi at about midnight.
