Stumped for a last-minute Christmas present for your beloved? According to the experts, choosing a scent is about more than whether it smells good. It should also enhance the wearer's presence, becoming his or her signature fragrance and imbuing all those around them with warm, fuzzy feelings. It shouldn't overpower or be something every woman in town is spritzing or dabbing on. This, however, might provoke more gift-buying stress, so try some of these for starters. 1. Vera Wang's limited-edition eau de parfum (HK$805/50ml) is based on the same mix of Bulgarian rose, calla lily and mandarin flower as her previous eponymous scent, but this has a sprinkling of crystals within the fragrance. It also comes in a collectable box. Available from Lane Crawford stores in IFC Mall, Central, and Times Square, Causeway Bay. 2. MOR's eau de parfum in peony flower (HK$420/100ml) is packaged in a classic French perfumery bottle with a crocheted vintage atomiser pump. At first, the floral scent is sweet but over time, it becomes more musky and the lighter floral base notes create a fresh, feminine aroma. Available from Joyce Beauty, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui. 3. Gianfranco Ferre's Ferre for Men (HK$450/50ml; HK$600/100ml) blends hints of lavender, pineapple, the 'mannish' black iris flower, rose, jasmine, geranium, amber, vanilla and sandalwood to create a 'special intensity and allure'. The new scent comes with a bath range and aftershave lotion. Available from Sasa stores. 4. L'Occitane's Ruban d'Orange (HK$370/100ml) smells as fresh as your morning fruit juice. The bottle is, of course, orange, and a little goes a long way. There's something refreshing about citrus scents and this one - although not unusual - is ideal for those who prefer a bit of zing instead of the usual floral offerings. Available from L'Occitane stores in APM Mall, Kwun Tong; Pacific Place, Admiralty; and Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong; among others. 5. Calvin Klein's CK One Electric eau de toilette (HK$360/100ml) is an update of the original CK One scent, this time 'charged with a stronger, intensified freshness'. It's described as woody with a citrus zing. There are top notes of lime and mandarin, and cedar wood is among the base notes. Available from Calvin Klein counters in Sogo, Causeway Bay; Lane Crawford, Times Square; Seibu, Langham Place, Mong Kok; and Wing On, Sheung Wan.
