Chow Tin-fat strides out in front of the chasing pack across Plaver Cove Dam 500 metres after the start of the 10km Highwise Road Race at Tai Mei Tuk yesterday. The Hong Kong runner was never headed and raced to victory.
Chow, 31, quickly got into his stride after the starter's gun fired and together with a small pack of speedy runners had established a healthy lead over the field after just 1km.
'For some reason there was a half-hour delay at the start, so by the time the gun went off I needed to run hard just to keep warm,' said Chow, who was the leading Hong Kong runner in the Macau International Marathon two weeks ago.
Chow was pressured by Lau Kwong-man, and the pair stayed together until Chow pulled away for home with just 1km left to win in a time of 25 minutes and 39 seconds. Lau held on for second place clocking 25.56, while Ng Kam-tai came in third in a time of 26.45.
