For the price of a half-decent suit, a tour operator in Bangkok is offering a four-day vacation to Hong Kong Disneyland, including round-trip airfare, accommodation and two days at the theme park. The package offered by GSM Tours costs just 9,900 baht (HK$2,195) and is billed as 'Big Fun, Pay Lite'. With taxes, the round-trip costs about 12,000 baht. The package, which has featured daily departures, was launched last month and ends on Wednesday. A spokesman for the theme park said the deal had taken advantage of a special 'Stay and Play' promotion that offered hotel guests two days' of admission to the park for the price of one. Tickets for adults cost between HK$295 and HK$350. Travel companies could package promotional offers as they wish, he said. But the spokesman said he believed the offer must include just one night at the theme park's Hollywood Hotel, with the remaining two nights at another hotel in the city. That would account for the package's low price. But the travel company says guests stay in a garden-view room at the Hollywood Hotel for three nights and receive admission to the park for two days. The package includes transport between the hotel and the airport, and a return flight with Orient Thai Airlines. A room with a garden view at the hotel costs between HK$1,000 and HK$1,200 a night. This week the rooms are priced at HK$1,100. Orient Thai Airlines advertises flights between Bangkok and Hong Kong at 5,000 baht to 6,000 baht, inclusive of tax. Using these prices, the package as advertised is valued at more than HK$5,000 - almost double the advertised price. Paul Leung Yiu-lam, vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Travel Agents, said tour operators usually received a discount of between 10 per cent and 15 per cent for booking hotel rooms in bulk. Savings on airfares were also available during the holiday season as many airlines added flights to meet demand. 'These additional flights might be full on one leg but empty on the return trip, so airlines will slash prices to try to fill as many seats as possible on the return leg. They would rather do this than have an empty flight,' Mr Leung said. 'However, there are many restrictions. You have to take that particular flight and you can't make any changes.' Mr Leung suspects the Orient Thai Airlines fares for the package can be as low as about HK$900.
