Many supermarkets and retail chains are taking part in the No Plastic Bag Day programme.

On the first Tuesday of every month, customers must bring their own bags or pay 50 cents.

I support this activity.  We should help protect our environment by  re-using plastic bags.

More and more Hongkongers are becoming aware of the importance of recycling.

Let's keep up the good work.

Thanks for your letter, Shuk-ting. I'm glad to hear that you are keen to play an active role in protecting our environment. In fact, your letter has inspired me! My New Year's resolution will be to try to stop - or at least cut down on -  accepting plastic bags from shops.

The beginning of a year is always a good time to take stock of our lives and think about what we like and what we don't like - and make changes. So, beginning next year, I will carry a cloth bag

in my handbag so that I don't need to use

plastic bags.
