THE star of Oliver Stone's latest movie has used the wisdom of her experience to encourage Vietnamese boat people to leave Hong Kong detention centres and return to Vietnam.
Thirteen years ago the star of Heaven and Earth arrived in Hong Kong after fleeing Vietnam.
Hiep Thi Le was one of the lucky ones and was resettled in America after only a few months in detention.
Last week she returned to the territory to promote the movie, but more importantly, to visit her cousin at High Island Detention Centre.
When she met her cousin, who has been refused refugee status, Hiep told her something aid workers have been urging, that she should go back to Vietnam.
''Repatriation is the only answer, because there is no hope of her coming to the United States,'' she said.
