Political instability in Nepal has tended to keep the tourists away in recent years. Still, the country continues to attract those with an adventurous spirit. Visitors to the capital, Kathmandu, can enjoy spectacular scenery, which includes the Himalayas, and learn about Nepal's rich cultural heritage.

Dwarika's Hotel represents a serious effort to preserve the city's architectural heritage, which is gradually disappearing to make way for modern buildings. The brick building is in traditional Kathmandu style, and incorporates wooden pillars, centuries-old woodwork, and doors and windows saved from buildings that have since disappeared. The hotel owners received an international tourism heritage award for their preservation efforts.

The hotel is offering seasonal packages, valid until January 5, from US$195 per person (twin basis) per night, with additional nights at US$80 per room. A three-night package includes dinner for one night (including New Year's Eve) at one of the hotel's restaurants and a half-day tour of either Kathmandu city or the medieval city of Bhaktapur.
