The new Porsche Cayennes will have more powerful, direct petrol injection engines, burn about 8 per cent less gas, and are expected to arrive in Hong Kong in March, says local dealer Porsche Centre Hong Kong. 'The basic version [HK$798,000] has a 40 brake-horsepower [29-kW] power enhancement and is now driven by a 290bhp [213-kW]

six-cylinder engine, the displacement of which has increased from 3.2 to 3.6 litres,' the dealer says. 'The torque of the Cayenne has climbed from 310 to 385Nm. It can accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 227km/h. The previous model managed 9.1 seconds and 214km/h.'

The Cayenne S (HK$1.098 million, below) now has an even bigger 4.8-litre, naturally aspirated V8 engine, produces 500Nm of torque (previously 420Nm) and has 385bhp (283kW), an increase of 45bhp (33kW), that delivers a

0-100 sprint in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 252km/h, 0.2 second and are 10km/h faster than the previous model, says Porsche Centre Hong Kong. The Cayenne Turbo (HK$1.698 million) has 50bhp (37kW) more than its predecessor, with a new eight-cylinder engine with a twin exhaust-gas turbocharger that produces 500bhp (368kW) and 700Nm, an increase of 80Nm.

'This Turbo can race from 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds' and top at 275km/h, the dealer says - that's half a second of the sprint and 9km/h greater maximum speed than the previous model.

Now that's a big cocktail-party boast in Hong Kong, where there's about 1,930km of road, 275 speed cameras (with 146 on Hong Kong Island), 74 digital speed-enforcement locations and 51 red-light camera locations in traffic, the Transport Department says. Traffic crawls at 26km/h in town and 46km/h in the New Territories. We love Porsches, including the recently launched 911 Targa4 (from HK$1.566 million), but if you must flash the bonnet badge in this pokey, polluted place, go no further than the Cayman, and keep your 911s and Cayennes overseas where you can enjoy them for less tax.
