28 hurt in four-vehicle collision in yau ma tei

Twenty-eight people were injured in a four-vehicle crash in Gascoigne Road, Yau Ma Tei, early yesterday. The accident involved a double-decker bus, a coach, a taxi and a private car. The taxi and coach drivers were trapped in their vehicles and freed by firemen, while the bus driver and 25 passengers were slightly injured. They were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Kwong Wah Hospital.

15 evacuated after fire breaks out in building

Fifteen people were evacuated from an industrial building in Tai Yuen Street, Kwai Chung, when a fire broke out in an electroplating unit on the 12th floor. Two water jets and two teams equipped with breathing apparatus fought the blaze, which was put out after nearly an hour and a half. Kwai Chung fire station commander Tang Yau-nin said 15 people were rescued from the 14th and 16th floors. No casualties were reported.

inspections completed at 17 public housing estates

About 19,000 flats in 17 public housing estates have been inspected under the Housing Authority's total maintenance scheme, a 60 per cent completion rate from a total of 42 blocks. Four estates in the first stage - Mei Tung, Sam Sing, Sai Wan and Lai Yiu - have been inspected under the scheme with thorough examinations and repair work. The head of the scheme, Allan Wong Nai-kwong, said a survey found more than 85 per cent of residents living in the four estates were satisfied or very satisfied with the results of the scheme.
