Ship shape
If the state of a city's music scene can be assessed by the number of its independent music labels, Hong Kong's in good shape.
Already boasting a number of indie imprints including 89268, Disuye and Harbour Records, Hong Kong is now home to a new label - 852 Recordings, founded by long-time friends, DJs and producers Ricky Stone and Jonathan Waller.
The number '852' may be the international country code for Hong Kong, where Stone (right) is based when he's not touring, but 852 Recordings 'will be home to an electric collection of future-focused house tracks from around the globe', the founders say.
Stone - ranked 40th on DJ Mag's list of the world's top 100 spinners - says setting up a label to reflect his tastes is a natural step. He has done perhaps more than anyone to put Hong Kong's electronic music scene on the global map and while keeping a hectic touring schedule has found time to remix the likes of Hybrid, Blue Amazon and Sue?o Latino.
852's first release is the fierce house extravaganza BoBoun by DJ Ralph from France, and it will be followed up by productions from David Forbes (Britain), Disciples of Sound (Britain) and Mikael Jonasson (Sweden).
