Chocolate - food of the gods
2-MIN READ2-MIN
Chocolate is made from the beans of the cacao tree. Its Latin name, Theobrama Cacao, literally means 'food of the gods'.
Cocoa beans are removed from their pod, fermented, dried, roasted and then ground to make cocoa liquor (a dark brown paste).
This is then pressed to make cocoa butter (a bitter tasting fat), and cocoa cake which is then ground up into cocoa powder.
