Master of Environmental Management, Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia Designed to provide students with an understanding and appreciation of issues and skills in environmental management, the course examines environmental policies, strategies and management systems, with a focus on the recognition and development of sustainable environmental management in both urban and non-urban environments. Students may also undertake some study of specific environmental problems, research methods, geographical information systems and environmental economics, philosophy or politics, and may include a research project in their degree. The course is global in scope, but case study material will draw especially on the experience of Australia and other Asia-Pacific nations. Enrolment deadline December 2007 for 2008 course Master of Environmental Science, Monash University, Clayton campus, Victoria, Australia This course is concerned with the interactions between humans and their bio-geological contexts with the aim of reintegrating the two with the insights offered by both the humanities and the sciences. Research emphasises the processes behind human-environment interactions, the development of policy, and the implementation of management strategies favourable to the environment. The programme offers a primary insight into the nature of the environmental issues through core coursework units involving interdisciplinary research experience and an understanding of the social construction of the issues. Requirements Holders of a bachelor's degree with a good GPA will be considered for entry to a master's degree. For certain courses, work experience will also be required. Cost A$20,700 or HK$127,980. Aid Not applicable. Enrolment deadline At least two months prior to start of course. PhD in Forest Sciences, Faculty of Forestry and the Forest Environment, Lakehead University, Ontario, Canada Research-based programme focused on the development of researchers in the field of forest sciences, including biodiversity in forest environments; conservation biology; evolutionary ecology; forest ecology and ecological processes; forest entomology and pathology; forest fire management and ecology; forest management, economics and operations; forest recreation; forest soils and soil conservation; forest genetics and tree improvement; population and community ecology; remote sensing and photogrammetry; silviculture; sustainable forest management; tree morphology and physiology; watershed ecology, forest hydrology and water quality; wildlife/animal habitat management and conservation; and wood science. Requirements Master's degree in forestry, related science or allied discipline. Students lacking the appropriate background will be required to complete additional courses (up to two FCEs at the graduate level) as determined by the supervisory committee and approved by the Faculty Graduate Studies Committee.
