Q What do you think of the growing trend for cosmetic surgery?

This growing trend towards cosmetic surgery is worrying, especially when such a degree of vanity prevails over substance. The crux of the problem seems to be marketing campaigns that fully exploit people's vanity and self-doubt. Education about cosmetic surgery would need to be boosted, so at least people are making informed choices.

Nonetheless, instead of relying on the surgeon's scalpel to revamp something that is literally skin deep, wouldn't it be better to devote attention to enhancing qualities that really matter, such as personality and intelligence? It would seem that people opting to go under the scalpel are maybe lacking in self-confidence in these areas.

I know appearance is essential for everyone, but what about natural beauty? What do you think of a girl who always uses foul language but has a nice face and a sexy body?

I think 'pretty' includes both good looks and personality. There is no perfection in this world. Some people have surgery to make themselves look like their idols. However, the beauty is fake and cannot boost their confidence. If surgery fails, their confidence and health will be destroyed. Everyone has special features. The criteria of beauty are different for everyone. We should accept our defects because no one is perfect. It would be grotesque if everyone looked the same.
