EVERY so often the South China Morning Post publishes an article or arti-cles telling of the sad plight of so-called astronauts - Hong Kongers who think they can swap their Hong Kong passport and identity for the more comfortable passport from countries like Canada, USA, UK or Australia.
Afterwards, when things don't work out so well for them they return home leaving their family to look after their new place.
Later, they experience the difficulties of being apart, specially during festive occasions like Christmas when the spirit of family tugs on heart-strings. So what else is new? Changing passports is not like changing underwear. When you swear allegiance to the flag of the USA or Canada or UK, you read between the lines and understand that the new status doesn't last you two days or years. It's supposed to last you forever.
