HALF of the pop duo which once set the world alight with hits like Wake Me Up Before You Go Go was in Hong Kong at the weekend to celebrate what he thought would be a quiet New Year's Eve.
Andrew Ridgeley, who set up Wham! with George Michael, flew in on Friday with Keren Woodward of UK group Bananarama.
While Keren was performing at Victoria Park for the Urban Council's New Year bash, Andrew stood quietly backstage.
But at five to midnight, much to his surprise, he was ushered on stage to the delight of thousands of fans.
''It's a little unexpected, but I'm glad to be here,'' he told them, and joined in the countdown.
Later he told Keeping Posted of his plans: ''We're off to Bali for a quiet holiday,'' he said. But unlike Fergie on her trips to Indonesia, he did not expect much attention from the press. ''They have gone on to other things now. They generally leave us alone.''
