Prison over social security attack
AN unemployed man was jailed yesterday for pulling the hair of a social security worker after querying his monthly payments.
Yu Fai, 65, was jailed for one month by Eastern Court after he pleaded guilty to common assault.
He admitted grabbing the hair of Chan Yun-chu, 30, at the Social Welfare Department's Chai Wan unit on December 21.
In sentencing, Magistrate Jonathan Acton-Bond said there were channels other than assault to deal with the matter. He said Yu should have lodged a complaint if he had any dispute over his payments.
The court heard Yu requested an interview with Ms Chan, who had taken charge of his file.
During the interview at the reception counter, Ms Chan explained to Yu that the social security assistance had been covered in his monthly payment from the department.
