Super Robot Wars XO (Xbox 360)
Otaku gamers rejoice: the Xbox 360 has a Super Robot Wars (SRW) game. This long-running series that has been on nearly every platform now makes its debut on the 360 console with Super Robot Wars XO.
SWR is a turn-based strategy game that lets you control lots of robots and mechs from your favourite animes. Robots from as far back as the 1970s, such as Marzinger Z and Getta Robo, to current day anime robots like Rahxephon have made appearances in the Super Robot Wars series.
As usual, the game starts with you choosing a male or female character and a mech for you to pilot. After a few minutes of background story, you can fly into action with some super robots and beat up some evil monsters and robots.
Graphics-wise, there are some improvements. Gone are the old 2D-animated battle sequences, replaced by some pretty good 3D animation. The robots and mechs are still in their super-deformed (SD) form, as in most of the previous games.
Otaku gamers that have played this game will feel right at home with the Japanese menus, as things haven't really changed much from any of the other recent super robot games. If you haven't played this before, don't be put off by the Japanese: a little trial and error is worth the effort so that you can play this game.
