Brett Prebble was reunited with gifted sprinter Sanziro at the Sha Tin trials last Friday morning and the result was an effortless win in the opening heat in exceptionally fast time.
Prebble was the man who got Sanziro out of a losing rut and back into a winning groove late last season. After 13 starts without a win, Sanziro suddenly turned it all around once Prebble started riding him and scored his breakthrough win at Happy Valley on April 19.
In all, Prebble had just three rides on the former Melbourne Group Two and Three-winning juvenile, for two wins and a third to Yellow Diamond, when he ran on late and was only beaten by a half length.
When Sanziro resumed this season, Prebble chose to ride Tchaikovsky for David Hall and Gerald Mosse took over, getting Sanziro into third place. The Frenchman then retained the ride, achieving three placings from five rides.
Sanziro, a member of the string prepared by leading trainer Caspar Fownes, bounced well in the trial and moved effortlessly into fourth position, with Group One winner Scintillation making play.
Prebble eased around the heels of second-placed Master Marauder on the point of the turn and barely did anything on Sanziro, with the gelding striding up to join Scintillation under his own steam approaching the 200 metres.
