The story ''F' for HK students in English proficiency stakes' on yesterday's front page wrongly stated that more than two in four Hong Kong Chinese graduates granted permanent residency in Australia last year did not have competent English skills. The number is more than two in five. Also, Nigel Bruce of the University of Hong Kong did not specifically refer to the situation as another indicator of declining standards in Hong Kong. Instead, he stressed the need for universities to consider ways to respond to the arrival at universities of students at a younger age from 2012.
The headlines on the story 'Liberals plan Tsang poll protest' on A2 yesterday did not accurately reflect the content of the story. Liberal Party chairman James Tien Pei-chun said he would encourage party members to vote for Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, but was considering abstaining to avoid being labelled a deserter. Mr Tien did not make reference to casting his ballot for another candidate.
We apologise for the errors.
