Protesters threaten to block road

Residents of Fairview Park in Yuen Long protest against what they say is official inaction over heavy trucks using the estate's private road after a fatal accident last week in which Kam Ho-wah, 12, was knocked down by a truck while riding his bicycle.

The protesters, who laid a wreath at the accident scene and jeered at heavy trucks using the boulevard to access nearby garages and container yards, threatened to block sections of the road if transport officials refused their demands to ban the trucks. The Transport Department today is expected to open the new Kam Pok Road next to the boulevard, but residents still want bigger trucks banned from the private road.
