Former director of broadcasting Cheung Man-yee had a pleasant 60th birthday surprise last week. No knitted sweaters, toiletries or tickets to RTHK shows. Rather, something a little more fun - a singular wine to toast an exceptional woman. Chateau La Man Yee 1946 Bordeaux Superieur, produce of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, made a brief appearance in the city last week. It was bottled in honour of Ms Cheung's 60th and available only to guests attending a dinner hosted by Salon Films managing director Charles Wang at the Chef's Table in the Cafe at the Ritz-Carlton hotel. Ms Cheung said she was delighted with the wine. 'I thought it was very nice of my friends among the Chinese University alumni and it made my 60th much more painless.' While the wine was not for sale, she said she might see if some could be sold for charity. 'Man-yee has made tremendous contributions to the media and broadcasting fields,' Dr Wang said. 'So I felt she needed a special tribute to honour her many achievements.'
